Spelling |
This is a Grade 1 activity. Every week the children are given a
new list of words to learn. They use several centers to learn the words. In November, March and June the students will complete a formal test to get a broader look at their grade level achievment and to ensure their skills are continuing to grow. |

Writer's Workshop |
This is a Grade 1 activity. The children are beginning to experiment with different kinds of writing. They have written stories that are true about themselves. They have used their imaginations to creat stories that are fiction. They have also retold some of their favorite stories and movies. They try to think about using capital letters in the correct places and remembering when and where to use a period. The grade ones are attempting to do most of the spelling on their own using the sounds they know. The children focus on the quality of their writing as opposed to the
quantity of writing.

Printing |
This activity is completed by Kindergarten andGrade 1 students. We print one to two letters per week - so that the Kindergrten
childern learn how to print the letters, and the Grade 1 students
are able to review. |

|
Letters/Grammar |
We use the Empowered Beginnings program to learn the letters
and their sounds. This program teaches the children how it sounds, looks
and feels to say each letter in the alphabet. For the older students it
has several techiniques and "rules" for learning vowels and their
sounds. We also complete exercises around learning correct punctuation,
etc. |
