Welcome to Minto School!
I have lived in this community for over 26 years, where my husband and I own a mixed family farm. My husband attended Minto School many years ago and our two children also attended Minto School, went to Boissevain for High School and now are adults. As you can see, our roots run deep in this small community.
This is my ninth year teaching at Minto School full time and holding the Principal position for Minto School. I also teach the Grades 5 - 7 students full time.
Minto School is a very small school in Turtle Mountain School Division. We boast a total of 42 enthusiastic students and 3 classroom teachers. Our classes are divided into Mrs. Harper’s class of K-1 in the a.m. and 1/2 in the p.m., Mrs. Darling's class of Grades 2-4 in the a.m. and 3/4 in the p/m., and my class of Grades 5-7. We also have on staff, Mrs. Chambers, who is our educational assistant and part-time secretary, Mrs. Carrie Smith and Mrs. Carol Witherspoon, who are educational assistants. Support Staff we share with other schools in our division include a Speech Language Pathologist and Resource Teacher. No school would be complete without a custodian and Tom Sprott keeps the staff on their toes with his antics and good humor.
The building itself is a brick structure built in 1928 and is the focal point of the community. Many of the present students have a parent or two that have attended school in this very same building. The school has three upstairs classrooms and a Kindergarten Centre/Music room in the basement. Downstairs, we also have a meeting room, resource/staff room, kitchen, locker area, and storage room. Although we have modernized the school throughout the years, it still has that old-fashioned charm and character about it.
